Japan’s men’s table tennis team fell to China in the final of the 2026 World Table Tennis Championships in London, securing the silver medal. Shunsuke Togami was among the players defeated as the squad struggled against the dominant Chinese side.
Earlier in the match, Tomokazu Harimoto suffered a stunning collapse after leading 2-0, while Sora Matsushima also lost to world champion Wang Chuqin. The overall defeat left Japan with a 0-2 deficit before Togami’s match, and despite a valiant effort, they could not turn the tide. 
The team’s silver medal continues their tradition of strong performances, though the gold remains elusive against China’s powerhouse lineup.
