Eintracht Frankfurt’s Dina Ebimbe: ‘I Was Healed in Brest’ – A New Chapter

Junior Dina Ebimbe, on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt to Stade Brest, only played 11 minutes between November 2024 and September 2025. During that period, a winter move to AS Monaco fell through after a failed medical, leading to his loan to Brest last summer. “I was afraid I would lose everything. But in Brest, I was healed,” the 25-year-old winger told Sport Bild. Dina Ebimbe transformed his lifestyle and environment to make a comeback on the pitch.

“I’m fit again. Physically and finally mentally,” said the Cameroon international, who joined Frankfurt from Paris Saint-Germain in 2022 for €6.5 million. “I now understand that football isn’t just my passion—it’s also my job. I didn’t realize that before.” After a strong 2023/24 season with 15 goal contributions in 44 matches, the French-born player hit a slump in 2024/25, featuring in only 12 games with around 500 minutes. His market value dropped from €14 million to €6 million during that stretch.

Dina Ebimbe attributes part of the decline to his former circle. “I’m someone who gives trust easily. Unfortunately, I gave it to people who took advantage of me. I paid dearly for it. Now I only trust those who were there for me when I wasn’t playing.” At Brest, the wing-back has become a regular in the second half of the season, scoring five goals in 26 appearances, stabilizing his market value at €6 million. Reports indicate the Ligue 1 side, currently 12th, holds a €7 million purchase option. When asked if his loan club would trigger it, he said: “I’m not sure, but I don’t think so. I’ll likely return to Frankfurt first.”

For Stade Brest, deals of this size are rare—their most expensive signings were Franck Honorat and Steve Mounié for €5 million each in 2020. Frankfurt operates in a different financial tier. When Dina Ebimbe left, Dino Toppmöller was the coach, and he no longer had a chance. “When I left, I wasn’t allowed to train with the first team. But if they give me a chance under the new coach, I’ll give 100 percent. If not, I’ll still give everything to be in top shape for another club.”

Dina Ebimbe acknowledges his own role in the dip, wishing he had “been as professional earlier as I am now.” His Frankfurt contract runs until 2027. “I’m coming back as a new person. I love Frankfurt, I love this club, I love the fans. They’ve done so much for me—I can’t deny that. So I respect their decisions.”

When Hugo Ekitiké moved from PSG to Frankfurt in February 2024, his market value was €15 million, and Dina Ebimbe’s was €14 million. Their careers then diverged: Ekitiké joined Liverpool for €95 million, while Dina Ebimbe went to Brest. “Many of my teammates understood it earlier than I did. Hugo Ekitiké, for example. Football is tough—you have to work harder than others. In Frankfurt, I closed my eyes to that. I was too relaxed.”

Dina Ebimbe is one of seven Frankfurt loanees with a combined market value of €26.8 million, including Elye Wahi (Nice) and Niels Nkounkou (Torino). As of now, the SGE squad for the 2026/27 season includes 35 professionals, with ten defensive and offensive wingers.
