Stephen A. Smith has unleashed a scathing critique of the Washington Wizards following their victory in the NBA Draft lottery, expressing sympathy for top prospect AJ Dybantsa, who may now be headed to the troubled franchise.
Smith questioned the team’s direction and pointed to its repeated failures in recent seasons to justify his harsh assessment. “I felt sorry for him … The Washington Wizards have lost at least 64 games over the last three years. They are a basketball abomination,” Smith said.
He added that the Wizards have largely avoided national scrutiny only because attention is focused on other issues in the nation’s capital. “The only reason we don’t take time to insult them more is because of the stench emanating out of the nation’s capital for stuff other than basketball. That’s the only reason.”
Smith doubled down on his opinion, concluding, “If it was not for that, we’d be focused on them. They are horrible.”
The outspoken analyst’s comments come as the Wizards hold the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft, with Dybantsa widely projected to be selected first.
