The Colorado Avalanche has reassigned goaltender Ilya Nabokov to their AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles. The 23-year-old netminder previously announced his departure to North America after finishing the season with Metallurg Magnitogorsk, where he played on loan.
The Colorado Eagles are currently competing in the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs, holding a 2-1 series lead against the Henderson Silver Knights. Nabokov is expected to join the team’s roster for the remainder of the postseason.
During the regular season in the KHL, Nabokov appeared in 38 games for Metallurg, recording 22 wins with a 2.74 goals-against average and a 90.1% save percentage. In the playoffs, he played 7 games, posting 2 wins, a 2.53 GAA, and an 89.2% save rate.
Nabokov’s move across the Atlantic marks a significant step in his career as he aims to prove himself within the Colorado organization.
