The Coachella Valley Firebirds defeated the Ontario Reign 3-2 in double overtime to clinch a spot in the Pacific Division Finals, where they will face the Colorado Eagles.

In a low-scoring opening period, Coachella Valley showcased disciplined defensive play, preventing Ontario from registering their first shot until 6:32 into the game. During that stretch, the Firebirds managed only two shots, but one found the net—forward Jani Nyman scored the game’s opening goal. The first frame totaled just 13 shots, with the Firebirds holding an 8–5 edge.

The second period also featured limited scoring chances. Ontario’s defense held Coachella Valley without a shot until the 9:31 mark. In that time, the Reign generated only four shots, but one—off the stick of forward Jack Hughes—slipped past Firebirds goaltender Nikke Kokko to tie the game 1–1. However, misfortune struck the Reign shortly after: Firebirds forward Oskar Fisker-Molgaard scored on a rebound from Coachella Valley’s first shot of the period, restoring the lead at 2–1.

From that point until the 14:37 mark of the third period, the Reign outshot the Firebirds 11–8, including two unsuccessful power-play opportunities. Their persistence paid off when forward Andre Lee netted the equalizer, sending the game into overtime.

After a close overtime battle, the Firebirds outshot the Reign 13–12 across the two extra periods. The decisive goal came from Coachella Valley forward J.R. Avon, propelling the Kraken’s AHL affiliate into the Pacific Division Finals.

Coachella Valley goaltender Nikke Kokko stopped 34 of 36 shots, posting a .944 save percentage. Ontario goalie Erik Portillo made 31 saves on 34 shots for a .939 save percentage.
