Statement of the Iranian Teachers Trade Association on the Forth Anniversary of the Teachers Protests

March 14 marks the fourth anniversary of a teachers’ gathering in Iran which resulted in a severe clampdown by authorities. That gathering next to the Iranian parliament was called to protest the changes in public employees employment rules. The teachers main demand was to be treated the same as other public employees. On the fourth anniversary of the gathering, the Iranian Teachers Trade Association thanked all the teachers who “bravely displayed the liveliness of the teachers” and asked them to reflect on the events of that day and continue with the demands raised. The association also commemorated those teachers who are spending a second Iranian new year in jail. Teachers Hashem Khastar, Rasoul Bodaghi, Mohammad Davari, Nabiollah Bastan, Abdollah Moemeni, among others, are still imprisoned.
