Labor Activist Goes on Hunger Strike in the Prison
Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, pipe worker at Shahre Rey and labor/children rights activist who has been jailed and held in solitary confinement since June 12 has started a hunger strike on October 6.
The authorities have set a bail equal to $100,000 for Ebrahimzaded which he has vigorously protested for its unreasonable condition. He has also protested the charges against him.
According to his brother, his family has repeatedly met with the prison authorities trying to secure his release by posting the bail but there have been no responses forthcoming. “We have told them that we are ready to pay the full amount but they do not give us any responses. They tell us they would contact us but we do not hear anything from them. They beat around the bush while Behnam still languishes in jail,” he said adding: “There have been some weeks which they have not allowed visitation time and this is especially hard on Behnam’s wife and son.”
