Abadan Laid Off Oil Refinery Workers Protest Action

Reports from the city of Abadan, southern Khuzestan region, indicate that about a hundred laid off workers at Abadan oil refinery have staged a gathering at the main gates of the plant on June 27. According to the green movement affiliated web site, Jaras, the workers were protesting their recent terminations from work. The security forces immediately had arrived on the premises forcing the workers to disperse which they did peacefully.

Later the workers congregated on the same location again, lying down on the pavement preventing traffic into and out of the refinery. Two workers videoing the events on their cell phones have been seen to be taken away by the plain cloths officers in a car. No information on their whereabouts have been provided.
